REVIEW
Heavyocity releases their first library of 2022, and it's the sixth chapter in their amazing Mosaic series of virtual instruments. There are over 1,349 Samples from 100 sound sources and contain 104 snapshot presets. The soundsources are divided into four categories including, Beautiful (30 sources), Beastly (30 sources), Noise Layers (20 sources), and Attack layer (20 sources).
Mosaic Leads runs in the Free Kontakt 6 player, so you don't need to own the full paid version of Native Instruments Kontakt if you don't already own it.
The interface contains six pages located at the top listed as Mixer, Control, Options, Arp, Macro Seq, and Master FX. You'll find the Macro Control knob in the center of the Mixer, Control, and Macro Sequencer pages. The Macro knob controls up to six Macro Sliders. The Sliders control the Envelope, Eq, Filter, Drive, Gate, and Space. Below the Macro control knob are three mixer channels that can be activated or deactivated.
The options page lends you access to browse all 100 sample sound sources and load them into each channel.
The Arp page contains three individual arpeggiators that let you create complex sequences by drawing shapes in all three Arp interfaces.
The Macro Sequencer page allows you to control modulation via the Macro Knob and alter the modulation sequences by modifying the shapes in the pattern sequencer window. The Macro knob is found on the Mixer, Control, and Macro Sequencer.
The final section is the Master FX page, where you will find Heavyocity's iconic Punish knob for compression and saturation. There are four effects, including Filter, Delay, Master EQ, and Reverb.
When you load Mosaic Leads in Kontakt, you will have three snapshot categories from the drop-down menu titled Arp, Playable, and Rhythmic.
This library contains a powerful amount of usable presets that are designed to cut through the mix. The amount of sound design that the Mosaic series provides is nearly endless. I paired the Leads up with some of the other Mosaic libraries, and as one would expect, they work wonderfully together.
Mosaic Leads is great for hybrid scoring and other genres of electronic music productions. The sounds have a broad spectrum of characteristics. There are vivid cinematic textures, expressive rhythmic presets, and some intense aggressive synth sounds. Some of the genres I could hear these presets used in are sci-fi films, crime, drama, horror, documentaries, industrial music, and much more. This library does not disappoint, and the reputation of the Mosaic instrument series keeps maintaining its significance. I must admit, I am hoping for a Mosaic Pads library, but until then, Leads brought the series to new heights. These types of synth sounds are what I hear in many film scores today, and the team at Heavyocity spared no expense in releasing a cutting-edge product.
The bottom line is Heavyocity’s Mosaic Leads is another inspiring addition to an already stellar series. If you want to inject your modern cinematic productions with vividly epic analog synth sounds - you should check this one out pronto!
