REVIEW
Heavyocity released Novo Modern Strings in 2017 and broke new ground in orchestral strings sampling. From that point on, they have released multiple Novo packs that do not require you to own Novo. Each pack works as a stand-alone instrument using the same powerful Novo engine. This is a great option to get your feet wet with this virtual instrument. The latest Novo pack is 'Synthetic Strings' and is 3rd in the series. This library is a combination of vintage analog and modern string-based synths. A total of 81 Sound Sources from 10 Synthesizers were used in the creation of this library. It contains 227 snapshot presets, 4513 samples, 6 NKIs, and is a whopping 13.6 GB uncompressed. Synthetic Strings contains 3 different instrument categories including: Traditional, Synth Designer, and Synth Loop Designer. There are 4 instruments included in the Traditional Instruments section: I Modern Synths, II Vintage Synths, III Rhythmic Synths (Straight), and IV Rhythmic Synths (Triplet). The first two instruments contain various string synths and the last two contain multi-sampled rhythmic content created with the modern and vintage synth sound sources.

The Source Browser can be accessed in the Synth Designer instrument section where you can select a sample set to be used by a channel.
The top section of the Source Browser is where you can browse, preview and load sample sets, and in the lower section you can define the key.

Synthetic Strings includes 120 Rhythmic Loops, Pedals, and tempo-synced Ambience. Within the Synth Loop Designer section, you can layer loops using the Designer Keys, as well as edit parameters for each loop in the
instrument. I did make a video demonstrating the loop designer in action at the bottom of this page and I also included Heavyocity's videos detailing this instrument.

Novo Synthetic Strings features many vintage synths that are being used in many of today's film scores. The 10 synthesizers sampled in this library are: Juneau 2, Boomsynth, Analog Brute, Sub 307, StringFett, Nova, Performer One, HY-101, HY-202, and String Ensemble. Heavyocity states it 'has taken the tools behind the lush expanses of synth
heavy scores from films like Dunkirk and The Social Network, and TV shows like Mr. Robot and The Knick and infused them with new life.'

However, I would also include the hit show 'Stranger Things' as part of that description. This library fits into what many composers have most likely been searching for in a Kontakt instrument.

The GUI is intuitive, easy to get around, and the presets are CPU friendly. It amazes me how well Heavyocity keeps their instruments processing so efficiently unlike other Kontakt libraries. As you look at the top left and right you will find the main navigation buttons and in between that you will find the main mixer. The Macro controls and navigation can be then found in the middle of the page.

The lower part of the interface is where the controls for the Macro sections and the Master FX are located. This is where you will find the iconic Punish and Twist FX knobs included in all Heavyocity instruments.

To be frank, Synthetic Strings is just plain Killer! The warm, rich, ethereal beauty of the evolving instruments in Synthetic Strings had me engrossed in a state of composing hypnosis. I heard sounds I've been waiting for and leave it to Heavyocity to deliver an astounding experience. This pack is worth every dollar and is certainly one of my favorite releases of the year next to Forzo. If you want to hear something truly momentous load Forzo and Synthetic Strings together in Kontakt. No matter what music you are scoring, you will find Synthetic Strings an essential part of your composing library tools. It's not only engaging but it fills the void missing in most string libraries I've heard. There is not one con I found in this library. The retail cost of this pack is $149 and, in my opinion, is a steal! There are so many capabilities with this instrument and the sound quality is produced with excellence. Synthetic Strings is another supreme release from Heavyocity and is beautifully crowned a

5 out of 5 Stars!
