REVIEW

Triple Spiral Audio released a new Omnisphere soundset inspired by the magnificent region of Scandinavia. Sound Designer Jaap Visser made his travels through Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. While on his travels he recorded 139 new soundsources for Nordic. This set includes 128 presets and 25 multis. Triple Spiral Audio has stated there was a working title named Hardangervidda, which is a region in Norway. I'm glad this was not the final title because not only is this name hard to remember, but it's hard to pronounce. With that aside, Nordic is a perfect title, easy to remember, and it sounds cool. I'm not sure if it's because I have a little Scandanavian in my DNA, but I'm always attracted to sounds and music from this region.

There is a lot I love about this library, but let's delve into some of my favorite highlights.

In the ARP + BPM section, the presets are divided up into BPM Ethnic, BPM Pulse, and BPM Text. In the Bells and Vibes category, there are three presets that stuck out to me Glacier, Atmosphere, and Nightsky. Triple Spiral Audio layered these with some awesome atmosphere and texture. 'Bowed Colors' had an array of dark foreboding ambient patches that work exceptionally well for some suspense and tension. 'Ethnic World' would be a favorite for anyone looking for some sounds to score some outdoor scenes. The ambient soundscapes layered with these sounds are beautiful and take your mind on a relaxing journey. The 'Guitars' is the shortest of the bunch, but the quality beats quantity. Combined with original atmospheric soundsources, these guitars offer stunning cinematic results. The Pad+Strings section is one of the largest of all the patch categories. There are 23 pads with the majority featuring the new samples. I was extremely impressed with the design of these pads. There is a wide variety from heavenly, lush, and mysterious with the perfect amount of aftertouch.

The 'Textures Playable' section makes use of several original soundsources in many of the individual patches. There are 5 out of 8 'Enchanted Text' patches that use 3 layers of Triple Spiral Audio's original samples with a mood of enchanting to shadowy.

The last two categories are 'Texture Soundscapes' and 'Multis'. There are many ambiences and emotional climates within the Texture Soundscapes. Flooded with sounds from the night and outdoor environments make this a perfect element for atmosphere in your score.

The 25 multis give you instant gratification of multiple patches working together. These are cleverly stacked and are nice bonus to this library.

Nordic is a brilliant Omnisphere soundset with tremendous value. Triple Spiral Audio's use of several layers and the careful utilization of his original sampled recordings make this one heck of a soundset that can't be duplicated. Do yourself a favor and add Nordic to your collection of Omnisphere patch libraries!
