REVIEW

Igudesman Solo Violin by ORCHESTRAL TOOLS is a departure from the norm. An unconventional, unique solo violin library that's a refreshing change to what is already available

Owning several solo violin sample libraries, I can say I have not heard or played anything quite like this. First thing, this collection was recorded by Aleksey Igudesman, a virtuoso violinist and composer. His work has been featured in such films, including Inferno, Sherlock Holmes, Madagascar 3, and much more. Iconic composer Hans Zimmer claims Aleksey is his secret weapon, and he wields a violin with deadly, enormous talent.

Igudesman Solo Violin is comprised of 34 GB of samples (14 GB SINEarc compressed), 24 bit / 48 kHz patches, and runs in the Orchestral Tools Free SINEplayer.

When you open up the library, there are four sections that include, Neo-Electric, Standard Articulations, Rhythms, and Percussive Un-pitched. Neo-electric contains Sustains, Marcatos, Staccato, Licks, and Legato with seven Mic positions. Standard Articulations contain Marcatos (long & accented gitano, crescendo, Pizzicato, Sustains (Gitano, Soft Gitano, Accented Gitano, short and long drill) , Staccato Gitano, Glissando, Bartok pizzicato up, and Legato (slurred & rapid). Rhythms contain five groups of Patterns in five varying bpm tempos (120, 148, 128, 152, and 148). Percussive Un-pitched incorporates, Marcato scratch piazzolla, Scratch piazzolla, Swish long, Swish medium, Swish short, Staccato chop, Doubles chop, Doubles piazzolla, Triples piazzolla, Quadruples piazzolla, Repetitions piazzolla, Repetitions fast piazzolla, Repetitions very fast piazzolla, Sustains seagulls, Scratch arpeggio, Glissando fx, and Legato.

Igudesman Solo Violin has a grittiness and some bite to it. It should fulfill a void where you may be looking for some bold, aggressive special effect articulations. It's more of a niche library that I think works well for adding zest, tension, or quirkiness to a track.

Aleksey recorded the library at the famous Teldex Studio in Berlin using an early 18th-century violin from Italian luthier Santo Serafin. I think this library is useful in a variety of film productions like comedy-drama, thrillers, romance, crime, and more.

There are plenty of articulations I can see utilizing, but there are some a little harsh for my tastes. However, a library like this isn't going to be for everyone for obvious reasons, but it will be valuable for someone needing something outside the box.

Igudesman Solo Violin by ORCHESTRAL TOOLS is a creative, innovative solo violin library that I recommend adding to your toolkit for something a little unusual and to have Aleksey's authentic technical unbridled sound at your fingertips.

4 OUT OF 5 STARS!
