NEW RELEASE: A2600 UDS by SOUNDPAINT

A2600 UDS synthesizer by SOUNDPAINT

NEW RELEASE

The 2600. Ultra-Deep Sampled (UDS™)

The original 1970s ARP 2600 remains as one of the most powerful synthesizers in modern music history.

The piercingly iconic sound behind Thriller, R2-D2 in Star Wars, Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, Jean-Michel Jarre’s Oxygene. From the signature tones of NiN to Radiohead and Depeche Mode.

We Ultra-Deep Sampled two pristine vintage Arp 2600s captured in obsessive detail.

So, how is it different in Soundpaint?

Most sample libraries give you a few snapshots. We spent three months with two legendary second-generation ARP 2600s (Tonus and Blue Marvin) to create the deepest sampling of this instrument ever made.

Never mind the 21K samples. A love letter in waveforms. Solely dedicated to the 2600.

The Tonus and Blue Marvin were also captured using our new CAF™ technology (Capture Analog Filter), which enables us to achieve same filter colors and unique filter behaviors as the physical units.

So how deep did we sample it?

Well. The 2600 is an analog modular - meaning there are literally infinite sound combinations. To honor this depth, we ultra deep-sampled (UDS™) the 2600 in the following ways:

•  All raw oscillators in multiple states (Pulse and Pulse Stages, Saws, Sines, Squares, Triangles and White Noise)

•  All famous patches meticulously recreated from original schematics and instructions, many dozens

•  Multiple variations of iconic sounds (ex. three different Thriller bass tones alone)

•  Hundreds of evolving drones, pads, and ambient textures derived from long-form modular performances.

• UDS sampled Electro Percussion and Analog 808s

• UDS sampled Cinematic Arps & Pads, which isn't possible on the hardware units due to limited polyphony.

What type of patches is it most known for?

Powerful leads. Raw and puncy basses. Sweeping arps. Electronic percussion. Evolving drones and ambient textures. Everything from aggressive sound design to silken, musical warmth. Each sound carries the attitude, grit, and character that only the 2600 can deliver.

Why the ARP 2600 Still Matters

Producers like Anthony Marinelli (Thriller) and Greg Phillinganes (Thriller) refer to it as their desert island synth for a reason. Some instruments cannot be surpassed (like a 1956 Stratocaster, a Stradivarius Violin or a 1928 Steinway Grand Piano).

The 2600 isn’t just a tool. It is a large slice of music history, with a power and presence that sometimes no other synthesizers can match.
