REVIEW
The Very Loud Indeed Co. releases their third Omnisphere 2 soundset called Omnisphere Altura. There are 120 patches and 251 new sound sources. It also includes recordings from a session drummer/ Meinl Cymbals artist Horacio Paris and session bassist Chalo Trejos. This is a brooding-sounding soundset and is a personal favorite. Much of the stuff I write is melancholy and dark, so I was really excited to check this one out.
Altura is inspired by composers, including Charlie Clouser ("American Horror Story"), Mick Gordon (“Doom Eternal”), the Newton brothers ("Extinction"), Colin Stetson ("Hereditary"), and Mark Korven ("Our House"). The Very Loud Indeed Co is growing fast, and the competitive quality of their releases is no joke.
I started with the 46 included Arps. They were disturbing, horrific, and filled with intensity. The BPM sequences and bass pulses are exceptional highlights. These are some of the best suspenseful driving arps I have heard. 12 Hybrid Organic patches consist of eerie, cold, dramatic keys and basses. 'In a Cold Sweat' was a cool shepherd tone preset layered with a tempo-synced pad.
There are 5 distorted and aggressive Impacts and Hits. The Keyboards section comes with 19 presets that range from somber, dreamy, calm, intimate, and percussive.
Pads + Strings includes 19 epic, sweeping, mysterious, atmospheric, and majestic patches. Most of the Pads+Strings uses 3 and no less than 2 layers.
Textures Soundscape is the last category and contains 19 patches full of anxiety, tension, and incorporates some tempo-synced soundscapes.
If you are looking for sounds for underscoring a horror, crime, dark contemporary drama production then this is it. The Very Loud Indeed Co. took some laborious care in creating these presets and it shows. The comprehensive use of the modulation wheel in all their soundsets is apparent in this one too. The retail price is $29 and is a very fair price. If you want to save even more money, you can buy the Omnisphere Bundle that includes all three soundsets at a discounted price.
Omnisphere Altura conjures fear, agitation, and trepidation. The overall presentation of this set delivers a suspenseful edgy emotional experience to the listening audience and its definitively killer!
