In the video below, we provide a walkthrough, review, and playthrough of Alt Choir by Westwood Instruments—a powerful new choir virtual instrument compatible with Native Instruments' free Kontakt Player.
Featuring 16 vocalists from diverse musical backgrounds, it blends classical and contemporary influences to create a unique, unparalleled vocal performance library. Perfect for adding emotional depth to scores, soundtracks, and cinema-inspired music.
“Episodes,” a new feature of Alt Choir, showcases Sopranos, Altos, and Tenors in harmonic unison, aligning seamlessly in both key and tempo. This flowing sound envelops any musical composition, enhancing it to a level reminiscent of the acclaimed Improvisations—but now elevated.
Recorded in all 12 major and minor keys with varying vowel sounds and dynamics, this library feels as though the vocalists are improvising around the music. Each of the four sections offers two beautifully crafted legato articulations: a standard legato with a stable, sustained sound, and an improvised legato that captures the vocalists’ natural vibrato and dynamic nuances.
Curated from across the UK, this chamber-sized choir of 16 voices—arranged in four sections—reflects a blend of folk, pop, indie, and classical influences. While each section showcases individual personalities, the sound is seamlessly unified across the choir. Recorded in a semi-circle setup for balanced stereo imaging, each section was isolated, giving users complete control over the entire choir.
Additionally, the library includes a unique instrument of synth-like sounds derived from the original recordings. These 12 transformed sounds retain the original spirit but offer an entirely new experience, all within a custom interface that allows users to mix them into something truly personal.
